Short-term initiatives

SwedBio can provide short-term support to promote development of specific aspects related to biodiversity and livelihoods - e.g. development of tools and methods useful for biodiversity integration. Ideally SwedBio-staff should try to engage directly and actively in the process.

SwedBio will also promote civil society participation in key international biodiversity meetings and processes. We focus in particular on promoting views and representation of indigenous people, Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in processes related to multilateral agreements where biodiversity-related issues are discussed and decided. This can include e.g. the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA), the World Trade Organisation (WTO), and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
