The Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) FoundationThe Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) Foundation was conceived by indigenous peoples' organisations. It was established in response to the aspiration of indigenous peoples to create a forum for sharing of ideas and experiences. It is a network organisation that encourages coordination, consolidation and solidarity among various indigenous organisations to advocate and organise campaigns on pressing issues towards advancing the cause of indigenous peoples in Asia. AIPP endeavours to coordinate with other organisations and movements for the realisation of its objectives and aspirations. Promoting community reflection/action to ensure peace, developing programs and systematic documentation of various issues and aspects of indigenous peoples' lives for publication and dissemination, aids as significant instruments towards achieving its goals. SwedBio presently supports two projects coordinated by AIPP:"Indigenous Peoples and Protected Areas: A Collaborative Management Learning Network in South East Asia" and"Promoting Indigenous Knowledge and Biodiversity in Asia". Indigenous Peoples and Protected Areas: A Collaborative Management Learning Network in South East Asia. The objectives of the project are to create win-win situations for conservations agencies and indigenous communities in, and near, protected areas to conserve Southeast Asia's rich biodiversity while safeguarding the rights and concerns of the indigenous peoples. The long term objective is to promote and strengthen collaborative approaches to the management of Protected Areas in Southeast Asia where indigenous people live. The project is a collaborative effort between AIPP, the Collaborative Management Working Group (CMWG) of the IUCN's Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP), Forest Peoples Programme (FPP) and the International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA). It is implemented in cooperation with local focal points in seven project sites - Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. SwedBio supports the project during its first phase November 2005 - April 2008. You can read more about the project here.
