Welcome to SwedBio!

Biodiversity is a crucial resource for the worlds´ poorest.  Rights to and sustainable use of biodiversity are often critical for local livelihoods, and are intimately linked to fundamental development aspects such as poverty, food security, equity, health and trade. Sustainable use of biodiversity is thus a prerequisite for sustainable development and poverty alleviation in both local and global perspectives.

The Swedish International Biodiversity Programme (SwedBio) was therefore initiated by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Swedish Biodiversity Centre (CBM), to allow a pro-active and strategic approach to addressing biodiversity for local livelihoods within Swedish international development cooperation.
